The Seventh-day Adventist church was formed by a group of reformed Methodists whose careful reading of scripture led them to determine that Saturday, not Sunday, was the seventh day on which God rested after the creation. They understood that Jesus was coming again and hoped that it would be in their lifetime. The church has grown to a world-wide institution recognized for its leadership in medicine, wellness and education.
